WEDNESDAY 2-4 -6.31 UNITS

THIS WEEK 23-16-1 +89.65 UNITS (59%)

Here are tonight's selections:

10 Units Denver U -3 -107

Sun battle battle of the frontcourts -- both teams have BIG GUYS up front. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (11-10) have three big guns in 6’-4” sophomore Anthony Winchester (15 ppg), 6-3” senior guard Mike Wells (15 ppg) and 6’-11” 250-lb senior Nigel Dixon (15 ppg, 10 rpg) up front. But they are 3-6 SU/4-5 ATS on the road where the Hilltoppers give up 70 ppg. And Denver is no easy place to play. Denver (13-8) has a strong all-around team, with 6'-9” 260-lb senior Brett Starkey (12 ppg, 8 boards pg) and 6’-8” senior Zeljko Zupic (7 rpg) crashing the boards while 5'-11" junior Rodney Billups and 6'-1" guard Erik Benzel (15 ppg) handle the backcourt. Denver is 8-2 SU at home where they outscore foes by a 73-63 average. WK won 81-77 last year at home, and Denver's defense and home court turn the trick this time.

10 Units Utah State -5 -107

Tough spot for the home team. Utah State (19-1 SU, 11-6 ATS) is on a roll behind a brilliant team defense (56.5 ppg allowed). Utah State has the best frontcourt in the Big West behind 6'-7" sophomore Nate Harris (11 ppg), 6’-8” junior Spencer Nelson (11 ppg, 7 rpg), while 6'-4" senior Cardell Butler chips in 13 ppg. Utah State has won 16 straight games and is 6-1 SU/5-2 ATS on the road. Northridge (9-10) is decent at home (6-2 SU, 4-2 ATS) but they don't have the frontcourt to hang with Utah State, as they are led by 6'-6" junior Eto Onyenegecha (14 ppg, 55% FG) and 6'-6" junior Ian Boylan (12 ppg), while 6’-2” junior Davin White (13 ppg) handles the backcourt. Utah State flattened Northridge 83-57 last month and should win again.

7 Units Saint Mary's Ca -13 -102

The most dominant home team in the West Coast Conference? Well Gonzaga, of course, but don't overlook St. Mary's, a team that is 10-1 SU/6-1 ATS at home where the Gaels outscore opponents by an 82-58 average! The Portland Pilots (10-12) are just 5-7 on the road and like to run behind a backcourt of 6’-4” sophomore Donald Wilson (13 ppg, 5 rpg), 5’-10” sophomore Eugene Jeter (17 ppg, 45% from 3-pt land) and 6’-2” point guard Adam Quick. 6’-7” senior forward Dustin Geddis (6 rpg) is the only decent frontcourt player and this team allows 75 ppg on the road! That will hurt against a St. Mary’s Gaels (14-9 SU, 11-6 ATS) team that plays great defense (39% shooting allowed). A strong frontcourt leads the way, led by 6’-10” sophomore forward Daniel Kickert (14 ppg, 6 rpg) and 6’-9” senior Frederic Adjiwanou (7 rpg). When these teams met last month at Portland, St. Mary's rolled 70-51! This will be Deja-vu.

5 Units Boise State +12.5 -109

Good WAC teams meet and both are 14-7. The Boise State Broncos (14-7, 11-7 ATS) have good depth in the frontcourt with 6’-6” junior Jermaine Blackburn (15 ppg), 6’-6” senior Aaron Haynes (13 ppg, 5 rpg) and 6’-7” junior power forward Jason Ellis (9 rebounds pg). Most impressive about Boise is their decent defense and terrific road play (6-3 SU, 7-1 ATS on the road). This will be a tough challenge, as Nevada is 8-4 in the WAC, hot on the heels of Hawaii and UTEP for first place. Nevada (14-7) is 10-0 SU/6-2 ATS at home where they outscore foes by a 79-63 average (that includes an upset of Kansas). Nevada plays great defense (42% shooting allowed). As a team they shoot 47% from the field, led by junior 6’-6” Kirk Snyder (18 ppg, 45% FGs), 6’-10” freshman Nick Fazekas (7 rpg) and 6’-9” junior Kevin Pinkney. These teams met Jan. 17 and Boise won 79-75 at home. Nevada should win here, but it won't be a blowout.

5 Units Pacific -10 +101

It's going to be tough for Idaho to score here. Pacific plays strong defense (41% shooting allowed) giving up 59.8 ppg at home, and Idaho shoots 41% as a team and averages 62 ppg on the road. Idaho (9-12) is just 2-9 on the road (3-6 ATS) and they lack height up front, led by 6'-4" senior Tyrone Hayes (12 ppg) and 6'-6" junior Anton Lyons. Last month, Pacific won at Idaho 63-62. Pacific (15-7) shoots 46% as a team behind an outstanding frontcourt of 6’-9” sophomore Christian Maraker (14 ppg), 6’-10” junior Tyler Newton and 6’-8” junior Guillaume Yango. Pacific (8-2 SU/5-2 ATS at home) is on a roll, winning 11 of the last 12 games. In fact, Pacific is on a 10-1 ATS run!!!

5 Units Santa Clara +2 -102

West Coast Conference game and neither team plays outstanding defense: Santa Clara is 2-5 SU/1-6 ATS on the road where it allows 73 ppg, while Loyola allows 67.8 ppg at home. Both teams allow opponents 44% shooting. The Santa Clara Broncos (13-11) have good guard play behind 6’-2” junior Kyle Bailey (11 ppg) and 6’-2” junior Doron Perkins (12 ppg), but they are on a 1-2 SU/0-3 ATS run while Loyola is on a 1-4 SU/ATS run. Loyola (11-11) has a good frontcourt of 6’-7” senior Sherman Gay (17 points per game, 56% FGs) and 6’-10” sophomore Chris Ayer (6.6 rpg). Loyola is just 6-5 SU/3-6 ATS at home. These teams met Jan. 17, and Santa Clara rolled 70-54. This one should be closer with little defense.

Looks like the Santa Clara write up was a copy of the Pacific.

Good luck
